Five generations in the workplace coupled with a hybrid, virtual environment create unique challenges for today’s leaders. Never before has self-awareness and introspection been so important. I spent the last 30 years working with a widely diverse group of people from private industry and Government. I understand firsthand the challenges of owning a small business, the hardship of deployments, and the struggle to balance career and family while still having time for yourself. As a current supervisor, I know the need to create healthy boundaries, deal with toxic individuals, and strive for inclusivity. I also know the roller coaster ride of caring for a loved one with a serious illness. A few years ago, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia.
